Mehmet C. Oz, M.D. is professor and vice-chairman of surgery at Columbia University as well as medical director of the Integrated Medicine Center and director of the Heart Institute at New York Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center. His research interests include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complementary medicine, and health care policy. He has authored over 400 original publications, book chapters, abstracts, and books and has received several patents. Dr. Oz is the co-author of the New York Times #1 bestsellers YOU: On a Diet and YOU: The Owner's Manual, as well as the New York Times bestseller YOU: The Smart Patient. YOU: Staying Young will be published by Free Press in October. Dr. Oz is also a member of the RealAge Scientific Advisory Board and key medical advisor for RealAge, the first standard of measurement for overall health and wellness, at RealAge.com.
Dr. Oz received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A. from Wharton School of Business. He was awarded the Captain's Athletic Award for leadership in college and was president of the student body during medical school. In his New York practice, Dr. Oz has seen success treating patients with a combination of cutting-edge Western techniques and alternative Eastern therapies such as meditation, massage, and yoga.
In addition to numerous appearances on network morning and evening news programs, Dr. Oz is the health expert for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and the host of the "The Dr. Oz Show" on XM Satellite Radio's Oprah & Friends channel. He is also senior medical advisor to the Discovery Channel where he has hosted several popular series.
Dr. Oz was elected as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum, was voted "The Best and Brightest" by Esquire magazine and was elected a "Doctor of the Year" by Hippocrates magazine and a "Healer of the Millennium" by Healthy Living magazine.
