Pier was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida. He attended the University of Notre Dame on an Air Force R.O.T.C. scholarship and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics.
He was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force in 1994 and spent the first three years as an intelligence officer for a fighter squadron stationed in England.
He then went back to flight school and spent the remainder of his career as a Weapon Systems Officer (W.S.O.) flying F-15E Strike Eagles as well as F-111s for the Australian Air Force on an exchange assignment.
Pier finished his career in the Air Force in 2006 as a Major with 12 years of service. He logged over 1000 hours flying fighter aircraft, including over 200 hours combat time, flying missions over Afghanistan and Iraq.
He is highly decorated but is most proud of being four times awarded the Air Medal and twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He now resides in South Bend, In with his wife Kristen and their 5 children. He and his wife are very active members of St. Joseph parish where their children attend school. Pier volunteers for the parish, and coaches the football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer teams of his children.
Pier is currently a Financial Advisor / Portfolio manager for Smith Barney where he is having great success despite recent market conditions and enjoys the tremendous satisfaction of helping others achieve their financial goals.
